Cystic fibrosis – Attacks the respiratory and digestive systems

Cystic fibrosis – It primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems.

It affects the lungs, but it is not contagious, at least for a healthy person. Symptoms of the disease appear shortly after birth. These include, among others repeated respiratory infections that damage the lungs, creating a thick mucus on them, which then becomes a hotbed of bacteria and all kinds of pollutants. Unfortunately, this type of infection practically does not respond to antibiotics.

Since the disease also affects the pancreas, patients also have digestive problems, which can be the beginning of diabetes. Other complications associated with cystic fibrosis can be, for example, cirrhosis of the liver or osteoporosis. The disease is the cause of infertility in men, as far as women are concerned, it depends on their overall health. The goal of therapy so far is only to relieve symptoms with the help of daily inhalations, respiratory physiotherapy and high-calorie nutrition.
