DART - Double Asteroid Redirection Test

DART – Double Asteroid Redirection Test Mission.

In late 2021, NASA launched its first ever mission to test a planetary defense program against future asteroid collisions with Earth. The DART spacecraft was launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. The launch took place on November 23, 2021 at 22:21 PST, i.e. November 24 at 7:21 CET.

The goal of a suicide mission is to crash into the surface of the Dimorphos asteroid. The collision is expected to occur between September 26 and October 1, 2022. The probe is currently traveling through space. Flying to the target at 24,000 km/h. If the mission is successful, we can assume that future threats from asteroids flying towards Earth will be stopped early enough. The mission will allow NASA scientists to test the program and see if such a collision will change the asteroid’s trajectory.
