The Ghan – It has been driving on the route from Adelaide to Darwin since 1929. At that time, it was still a narrow-gauge railway, and construction work was suspended for several decades. After the construction of a new railway line in 1980, it was possible to return to this project. But it didn’t happen until 2004. The train got its original name from Afghan camel breeders. Who traveled through Central Australia. The original name was “Afghan Express”, but Australians shortened it to “Ghan”.
